I am extracting a font from a pack that contains other sprites:
Global pack1=loadpack("pack1.png")
Global txt.smSprite=LoadFontSet("pack1.png","star wars")
Is there anyway of using pack1 instead of "pack1.png" in the loadfontset command?
Also, do sprites and fonts share surfaces if they are from the same pack?

Font sprites are kind of unique in a way.
Each font pack loaded only deals with a string of text (for speed).
It would be difficult for me to share text sprites and 3d sprites in one pack.
For example, everytime you use SpriteText to change the text I would have to store the current 3d sprites in use, clear the entire surface, restore the sprites, then add the quads to make up the text.
That's why text sprites have indiviual packs.
What you should do then ...
Save the font bitmap alone as a separate pack removing everything else.
Then,
; load normal 3d sprite pack
Global pack1=loadpack("pack1.png")
; load the font pack into txt.smSprite
Global txt.smSprite=LoadFontSet(""starwars.png")
